As we race into another Melbourne Cup Carnival we can’t help but share with you some of our highlights from last year. We were privileged to botanically style many spaces at Flemington Racecourse for the Carnival and here are just a few of our favourites.
Tabcorp Marquee
We worked in collaboration with Event Planet in creating one of the most remarkable marquees at last year’s Carnival. Guests to Tabcorp’s lavish marquee were greeted with an abundance of trailing and cascading wisteria suspended from the ceiling space over the entrance staircase. The spectacular wisteria installation included fragrant jasmine tendrils, with the delicious scent adding ambience and another dimension to the entry.
At the top of the staircase marquee guests emerged into a space where masses of feminine blooms adorned contrasting materials such as mirror and steel. Floral elements decorated gridded mirror media walls; steel grids and cascading blooms were suspended from the ceiling space; and innovative botanical arrangements were styled inside clear acrylic boxes.
Emirates Marquee
For Emirates, in partnership with The Pulse Group, we created wonderfully fluffy cloud installations suspended overhead and sculpted from white hydrangea blooms and tissue paper. These were set against a sky-blue ceiling and ombre wall backdrop. The central feature in the marquee consisted of a model Emirates aeroplane flying over buxus topiary and bush moss designed to emulate the hills below, with luxurious white phalaenopsis orchid blooms and hydrangea flower.
Seven Network Marquee
The Seven Network invited us to style their 2017 marquee and specifically requested that the botanical styling create a unique photo opportunity. We intricately created an impressive oversized ‘7’ logo from masses of vibrant red sim carnations with accents of bush moss. On the surrounding high bar tables, we styled crisp white ceramic vessels brimming with beautiful red roses, Australian native waratahs, textural ferns and glossy green monsteria leaves.
The Westin Melbourne Cup Breakfast
Whilst not within the gates of Flemington Racecourse itself, we just had to show you The Westin’s Melbourne Cup breakfast event themed to emulate a Royal Ascot cocktail garden party. We created an aisle of blooms at the entrance where costumed British Royal Guards greeted guests as they exited their vehicles. Inside the hotel foyer, we beautifully dressed the perimeter of large market umbrellas with masses of trailing spring blooms and cascading foliage and lavishly decorated the space to match complete with a media wall created entirely from green turf.
Our team has been buzzing with Carnival fever for weeks on end and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on for Melbourne Cup Carnival this year. We know for sure that it will be even bigger and more spectacular than the last.
