It really is the most wonderful time of year! What other time of year do you get the excuse to decorate the home in all that sparkles?! From a perfectly decorated Christmas tree to a festive table with all the trimmings, we share our favourite tips for Christmas styling in the home.

More is more when it comes to Christmas tree décor!

The more decorations on your Christmas tree, the more magical it looks. Collect a combination of high-quality ornaments and inexpensive shatter-proof baubles which can be purchased in large packs and help to bulk up your Christmas collection.

Be consistent with your Christmas theme

Continue your chosen colour palette and theme into other areas of the house in the way of garlands and stockings on mantles, wreaths on doors and gates, tables adorned with festive centrepieces, and candles everywhere. You could also have matching cushions, throws and table runners as part of your holiday-time collection. Think of your Christmas tree as the focal piece with everything else flowing on from there.

Change up your festive style every year

You don’t need to have the same Christmas colour palette year after year. We recommend collecting a base of neutral ornaments and decorations which allows you to add pops of colour or adapt your colour theme in years to come. Shimmering gold, silver and bronze are the perfect metallics to start with or opt for crisp white or warm wooden decorations as your base collection.

Create depth and contrast

We recommend you use a variety of decorations and ornaments in your tree, garlands and wreaths to create contrast and depth. Think different shapes and sizes as well as varying textures such as glass, wood, glitter, mirror, pinecones, ribbons and picks. Also create depth by hanging baubles and lights on the inner branches of your tree as well as on the ends of the branches.

Go extra with the lights!

When decorating your Christmas tree, we firmly believe you should use twice as many sets of fairy lights as you think you will need. The more the better! Masses of sparkling fairy lights are what give your tree a luxurious feel. Always put your lights on your tree first before adding your other decorations.

Don’t forget fresh

Inject some fresh festive botanicals into your space. We love potted poinsettia plants in velvety red or white which are the ultimate in traditional Christmas style. Holly and spruce are two types of Christmas foliage that immediately give your floral arrangements and table centrepieces a festive flavour. And beautifully scented Christmas lilies look stunning styled en masse in tall vases on the kitchen bench or at the entrance to your home.

Create a warm welcome

Hang a stunning wreath which matches your Christmas theme on your front door or gate to welcome guests to your home on Christmas day. Choose from a fresh wreath of Christmas foliages, a wreath made from dried vines and preserved floral, or a faux wreath decorated with baubles and ribbons to match your Christmas tree.

Festive dining

Continue the festive theme to your dining table for an impeccably styled feast that your guests will remember. Position a Christmas centrepiece in the centre of a round table or simply flat lay festive spruce foliage down the length of a long table. Beautiful candlelight helps to enhance the festive ambience, and little name tags attached to a matching bloom or sprig of holly will have your guests assuming you had the space professionally styled.
