Spring racing season is one of the biggest and most anticipated events on the Melbourne social calendar. Fashion has always been synonymous with spring racing, and headpieces are an important component of race day fashion. On today’s blog we provide you with styles we predict will be trending this season, as well as some ideas on how to incorporate fresh botanicals into your race day look.

Nude & Blush

Pretty and feminine, pink is most definitely the trending colour this year. We are predicting to see many ladies taking this trend to the races dressed in softer shades of blush and nude. A beautiful flower crown of fresh florals is the perfect way to finish off a pretty pastel outfit. We love the combination of velvety silver suede paired with frilly French tulips, cymbidium orchid blooms and strands of andromeda.

Metallics

We are likely to see a plethora of metallic accessories at this year’s spring racing carnival. An innovative way to include this trend in your race day style is a headpiece constructed from hand painted metallic leaves and blooms in shades of gold, silver or rose gold. Metallics can be used in a multitude of ways, a subtly gold dusted headband of fluffy baby’s breath from ear to ear to complement a soft and feminine style, or a structural piece of metallic rolled leaves and full blooms for maximum impact.

Florals

While it’s not ground breaking to suggest we will see florals at a spring-time event, we can almost guarantee that there will be masses adorning flirty floaty floral prints at this year’s races. How very perfect to take inspiration from the print on your dress, matching the flower depicted with its living counterpart.

Boho

This is a trend we’ve seen injected into both fashion and homewares of late. Think lace, earthy colours, and free-flowing sleeves and skirts. Understated headwear is a fit for this trend, with botanicals being the perfect accessory to this style. Wear a simple crown of foliage, or pair one or two large natural blooms with a scarf ribbon, worn in loose waves or swept back into a pony tail.

And for the men, it is traditional that they pin a bloom to their suit jacket according to the particular race day they are attending. Simply styled alone or combined with other botanical elements to stand out from the crowd, a fresh buttonhole is the only way to finish off his look.

We would love to work with you in creating a bespoke floral accessory to complement your spring racing outfit this year. Whether you know exactly what you want, or you would like us to take creative control, we look forward to designing the perfect botanical accessory for you this racing season.
